Refrigerant leak testing repair. D C’s heating & air conditioning in Laguna Hills and serving Orange County CA 949-770-9616 We take refrigerant leaks serious no matter if it is air conditioning or refrigeration. I was installing this Ice machine condensing unit which uses R 404A refrigerant and with all blended refrigerants any small leaks make the refrigerant no good.
Refrigerant leak testing repair
I noticed oil on the condensing unit and started to look where it may have came from but no luck even with the bubbles at first so I recovered the refrigerant from the system and started with 150 psi of nitrogen and still nothing could not find the leak.
I pushed my pressures up to 300 psi of nitrogen and found the leak with the bubbles. The factory wield copper to steal fitting had a small pin hole leak. I released the nitrogen and took apart the fittings because the oil residue will not allow the 50% silver to flow in the hole.
I remove the old fitting and clean up the surface really good with towel, steel brush and emery cloth. Cleaning the surface when braising metals together is really important in the air conditioning refrigeration industry.
I braised my fittings with 50% silver because we have to use this for steal to copper applications. I cleaned up the wield and inspected it with a mirror to make sure I had proper flow and a good wield.
Commercial Refrigerator Leak Repair
Second time I again charged the system up with 300 psi of nitrogen using my soap I tested my wields to make sure it was perfect, and all leaks are repaired.
I think it is important to always test and check your work). I pulled the system into a great vacuum and if you use a micron gauge with your vacuum pump you should get below 500 microns.
Personally, I like to get 250 microns especially if its refrigeration. I recharged the condensing unit with new virgin R-404A refrigerant to the factory weight using my refrigerant scale. The old refrigerant is no good and will be taken to my supply house from proper disposal.
