HVAC electrostatic washable filter
Allergy Gold HVAC filter

As an air conditioning contractor I use the Allergy Gold Air Filter in my furnace. This is an awesome filter and is washable so no more having to buy a replacement every 6 months. I bought this washable electrostatic air filter 9 yeas ago. I suggest you clean it every 2-3 months because it really stops dirt.

Allergy Gold filter will pick up a lot of particles and impressed me. I suggest if you purchase this filter make sure you wash it out about every 3 months it’s a easy clean air filter. Always replace your air filter every 6 months on average.  This will prevent heating and cooling issues or strain on blower motor.  Filter replacements depend on usage and also air quality.

What Air Filter Should You Purchase Heating and Air Conditioning

Lets chat a little about why this filter is one of my favorites. You will not have to buy another filter because it is washable! It picks up around 90% of all the particles in the air without the use of electricity or the noisy electronic ones that make that annoying snapping noise.

The electrostatic filter uses the air movement to cause the particle to magnetically stick to the filter. Without using electricity or electronics so no worry about expensive failures or breakdown.

I have sold and installed some really high tech expensive filtration systems in home. I will be honest the high price paid for air filter and the job it does is about the same as your electrostatic washable filter.

Replacing your Heating and Air Conditioning Air Filter

Replacing your filter heating and air conditioning is really important for health to protecting your evaporator from getting plugged up. Also for those that pay to have their ducts cleaned why not put a great air filter in you system? If you trust me you will never have to have your ducts cleaned again.

This allergy gold gets 5 stars in my book and after 9 years in use it looks brand new after I clean it up.

Purchasing a new Air Filter

Don’t buy the cheap fiberglass disposable filters if you have an air conditioner because the dirt that the cheap filter does not catch will plug up your evaporator coil. This causes low airflow and a frozen coil. When and if your evaporator coil gets plugged trust me it’s a pain to clean or expensive to have done by a professional.

POLARIZEDMEDIA ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANER

POLARIZED-MEDIA ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANER

The polorized media electronic air cleaner HVAC filters are what companies push to home owners.  I personally don’t because its just another electronic part to fail. Sure the manufacturers say how great they are but in my opinion save your money.  Remember all electronics fail and its a costly failure in my opinion.

Most homeowners and commercial HVAC customers use the pleated filters. These are good for about 6 months and get thrown away after use. You don’t have to clean so some like the ease of pulling out old replacing with new. Fast and simple for customers.

Air Scrubber and UV light for HVAC system. I see more and more of homeowners being sold Air Scrubber and UV light for HVAC system. I personally think its garbage.  They fail all the time UV light bulb burns out all the time and costs around $200.00 to buy replacement.  The scrubber is a joke. Look at how small it is compared to area in your air supply plenum.   I won’t sell these so don’t ask my opinion waste of money.

One response to “What air filter should I use in my furnace”

  1. Your home air filter is an important part of your heating and air conditioning system. We suggest replacing every 6 months to keep you’re heating and cooling system running properly. When you choose to use a higher MERV filter for your home you will have to change the filter more often because it will restrict the airflow in your system. When we have a airflow restriction during the heating months in California you will notice the furnace not heating your home. This air restriction will cause the furnace to trip the high limit switches intended to protect your home from fire and overheating the furnace. In the summertime when you use the air conditioner with a dirty filter you will notice the evaporator coil and the line to the compressor frozen. Poor airflow will freeze the evaporator coil into a big block of ice and no air will come out the supply registers in your home.
