Heat Load Calculations For HVAC
There are so many things we have to consider in doing load calculations for your home or office! Most of the time with new construction we have to follow strict rules for energy efficiency. For those older homes and offices that have air conditioning already installed we have to take in consideration that the load calculations were probably never done or if they were done they might be wrong. I personally would not pay for a load calculation for my home or office.

Here is my advice add high quality insulation! I removed all mine last winter from my home that was built in 1976. The insulation was still and crumbled in my hands while touching it! I installed some new R-30 insulation in my attic and what a difference it made to the comfort in my home! Last year I removed all the old lighting in my home and added recessed LED light bulbs! What a huge difference in the electric cost on my bill! Just place your hand next to the old-style light bulbs you will feel the heat the light bulb puts out and add heat to your home!
How To Save Money On Heating And Air Conditioning
If you are buying a portable air conditioner in southern California and not sure what size to buy before paying anyone to size the unit just go by the standard saying 400 square feet per ton. So, measure the room you want to condition length x width to get your square footage! This is based on 8-foot-high ceilings! If you have vaulted ceilings you will need to add BTU’s or tonnage
1 ton of refrigeration or air conditioning = 12,000 BTU’s
BTU’s is British thermal units.
The British thermal unit (BTU or Btu) is a traditional unit of energy equal to about 1055 joules. It is the amount of energy needed to cool or heat one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit (Physical analogue; one four-inch, wooden kitchen match consumed completely generates 1 BTU)
